For the purpose of this assignment, we are defining primary sources as the following:

  • Original Documents or Materials Created at the Time of the Event Being Researched 

Interviews, Newspapers, Original Footage or Reports, Autobiographies, Memoirs, Oral Histories, Diaries, Correspondence, Government Documents or Official Records, Photographs, Raw Data, and Speeches.

  • Creative Works Produced By Someone Who Experienced the Event Firsthand

Novels, Poetry, Photography, Drama, Films, and Music. 

  • Relics or Artifacts from the Time Period During Which the Event Took Place

Buildings, Clothing, DNA, Furniture, Jewelry, and Pottery.

    • Search for historical newspapers in ProQuest by limiting the date range to the date range of your event
    • Visit Gale Virtual Reference Library for primary sources such as letters, speeches, and government documents
    • You can find primary sources in the form of letters, memoirs, and more in the Library Book Catog
