Overview of ELAC Library's streaming video subscriptions

What Are Streaming Videos?

Licensed movies and films that you can watch (stream) on a computer, smart device, or television via an Internet connection.
Popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO do not offer subscriptions to academic libraries. However, the library subscribes to several academic streaming video platforms. All videos are captioned and licensed for classroom use.

  • Films on Demand: Access over 45,000 videos on a wide range of academic topics 24/7. No library permission or request required.

  • Kanopy: A popular streaming platform with access to 100+ ELAC faculty-selected films. Faculty can request videos required for classroom use in the portal. All users must create a personal account. See instructions below.

  • Swank: A motion picture streaming platform with 39+ ELAC faculty-selected films. Faculty can request videos required for classroom use in the portal.

Intelecom Update (Summer 2021)

The streaming video platform, Intelecom, went out of business in 2021, and ELAC's access to their platform ended on June 30, 2021. Access select Intelecom Learning films through ELAC's Films on Demand streaming video platform.

  • The ELAC Libraries have funds to purchase Kanopy licenses for films required for course assignments.
  • Due to budget constraints, the library can only purchase licenses for films requested by instructors.
  • Visit the library's Kanopy Guide to learn how to submit film requests.
  • All users must create a personal account in addition to logging in with their ACE account.
  • Faculty can also request major motion picture films through ELAC's Swank streaming video platform.
