FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the duration of my access?

  • Upon authentication of your complimentary employee access to The New York Times via SSO, your access will remain active until December of your graduating year, or for four years if you are a faculty member or staff.

What’s included in my access?

  • Your access provides unlimited access to New York Times News, via NYTimes.com, The New York News App for both iOS and Android, and The New York Times Audio Apps for iOS only.
  • Your access also includes all subscriber benefits, including the ability to opt-in to subscriber-only newsletters.
  • The New York Times enterprise license does not include subscriber-level access to New York Times Games, New York Times Cooking, Wirecutter or The Athletic. Please note that your subscription does not include Home Delivery of the paper.

What if I already have a paid subscription to The New York Times?

If you already have an existing personal subscription to The New York Times registered to your selected email address, you will not be able to authenticate your complimentary New York Times access unless you cancel your existing subscription. For information on how to cancel an existing New York Times subscription, click here.

Please note that when you authenticate your complimentary employee access to The New York Times via SSO, you will have the ability to either login to an existing New York Times account or create a New York Times account using any email address, personal or work.

What will happen to my New York Times account if I leave my school or if my school cancels their campus-wide subscription?

If you leave your school or if your school cancels their campus-wide subscription, you can continue accessing your New York Times account, without losing your existing account settings, including saved articles, game stats, recipes, newsletters etc. We recommend that you update your account with a personal and persistent email address and ensure that your account includes a password so you ensure ongoing access to your account. To update your account, go to NYTimes.com/account. While you can continue accessing your New York Times account at all times, in order to continue enjoying unlimited access to New York Times journalism, you will need to purchase a personal subscription.

Does the Campus-Wide subscription provide sharing entitlements?

The campus-wide subscription access does not provide sharing entitlements.

I see this error message: Error: “We couldn’t link this account because it’s associated with a different Times account”

This error message indicates that you have already linked your organizational SSO account to a NYT user account, and it is a
different NYT user account than the one you’re currently logged into
Step 1: Log into the currently connected account and disconnect it from SSO

  • On a web browser, go to nytimes.com and log out, if not already
  • Login using SSO (Choose "Continue with work or school single sign-on")
  • This will log you into the currently linked account by simply using your SSO account credentials
  • Navigate to Account > Account settings > Email and settings
  • Next to Work or School, click Disconnect

Step 2: Link your SSO account to your desired NYT account
