The ELAC Library Instruction programs aims to help students become information competent, defined as the ability to effectively find, evaluate, and use information. Our goal is to teach students how to become independent researchers and lifelong learners.

ELAC interns can teach part of a library workshop, and eventually an entire workshop, if desired. Students attend workshops outside of class time. Some instructors require students to attend while others give extra credit for attendance. Interns are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the library workshop policies and materials, accessible at http://researchguides.elac.edu/libraryworkshops.

Prior to teaching, interns will first observe three to four library workshops. During the second or third observation, interns can assist the workshop instructor by distributing workshop handouts and by providing assistance to students during the workshop.

After observing at least three workshops, the intern will meet with the instruction librarians to develop a teaching plan. Interns will first select a date to co-teach a segment of a workshop with an Instruction librarian and then schedule a second date to teach another segment of the same workshop. If desired, the intern can then schedule a date to teach the entire workshop alone, or continue to co-teach with a librarian.

Interns will keep track of their observation and teaching dates using the form provided below.
