ELAC Black History Month Events

Celebrating Black History Month at ELAC in February 2023

East Los Angeles College (ELAC) is proud to celebrate and commemorate the many contributions African Americans have made to the U.S. – in business, education, literature, sports, music, agriculture, fashion, and groundbreaking research and discoveries. Therefore, this month, UMOJA, in collaboration with the President’s Office and Professional Development have several activities planned:

  • UMOJA Office Open House on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 7-8 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • Come visit the UMOJA office in F5-323. Learn about the program and the students being served. 
  • Porch Talk with Coach John Mosley on Tuesday, February 14 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
    • Join us and watch Netflix: Last Chance U featuring Coach John Mosley followed by a panel discussion. 
  • Towards Recovery and Discovery in Urban Education: Reboot, Retool, Reclaim Zoom Discussion with Dr. Christopher Emdin on Thursday, February, 23, 2023 at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM.
    • Join us for a discussion with USC Professor and Director of Youth Engagement at the USC Race and Equity Center Dr. Christopher Emdin. Register on Zoom.
  • Small Business Expo on the Quad on Tuesday, February 28th from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. 
    • Come out and support local Black businesses from the Greater Los Angeles area on the quad.
