Computer Use Policies

ELAC Library Computer Use Policy

  1. You must be a currently enrolled ELAC student with an ACE account to use the computer workstations.
  2. No personal software can be installed.
  3. Preference will be given to students who use the computers for course assignments; students engaging in non-academic activities may be asked to give up their seat when students are waiting to use computers for academic assignments.
  4. Viewing offensive or pornographic materials is prohibited.
  5. Anyone found violating these policies will be asked to leave, and repeat violators may lose their privilege to use library computers. Students who damage equipment may face disciplinary, civil, or criminal action.
  6. If you have any questions or concerns, or need to report a violation, please talk to a librarian at the Research Help Desk or to staff at the Circulation Desk.

LACC District Computer Use Policies

Saving Documents

  • Save your work frequently to prevent losing data in the event of a power outage or computer malfunction
  • Do not save documents on the computer hard drive. Files are wiped out after computer restarts
  • Save your work on a USB flash drive or student network drive "S" (For student computer only)

Wi-Fi Access (Login with your LACCD SIS account)

  • The East Los Angeles College and the library provide wireless access to students, faculty, and staff. This service provides wireless data network access for mobile computing devices such as laptops and smartphones 
  • For wireless setup assistance, speak to an IT personnel available in the library

Library Devices

Chromebooks

  • Chromebooks can be checked out by ELAC students with a valid ELAC student ID card
  • Chromebooks are available for either a three-hour on-campus checkout or a semester loan, subject to availability.
  • Chromebooks are available at the Tech Help Desk
  • Prior to borrowing the device, a Borrower Agreement must be completed and signed each semester or intersession.  

 

MacBook Pro / Air

  • MacBook Pro can be checked out for the semester by ELAC students with a valid ELAC student ID card
  • MacBook Air can be checked out for three hours for on-campus use
  • MacBooks are available at the Tech Help Desk
  • Prior to borrowing the device, a Borrower Agreement must be completed and signed each semester or intersession.  

 

HP Laptops

  • HP laptops can be checked out for three hours for on-campus use or for the semester (depending on availability) by ELAC students with a valid ELAC student ID card
  • HP laptops are available at the Tech Help Desk
  • Prior to borrowing the device, a Borrower Agreement must be completed and signed each semester or intersession.

Printing and Copying in the Library

Printing

  • Printing is available for all library student computers
  • Your LACCD SIS account login is required for printing
  • To add funds, use the kiosks available in the library with your LACCD SIS account.
  • To print, send documents to the printing system located inside the Print Center
  • Cost for printing: 5 cents/page (black and white), 25 cents/page (color)

Wireless Printing 

Copying (Copiers)

  • Copiers are available on the first floor
  • For help using the copy machines, please ask for help at the Circulation or Tech Help desk
  • Copying cost:  Check at the Circulation or Tech Help desk

Library Computer Lab, Hardware and Software, and Other Equipment

Computer Lab Hardware and Software

Express Workstations (1st and 2nd floor)

  • There are 24 express workstations available for use
  • The computers are restricted to quick use purposes  

Open Lab Workstations (QTY: 123 Windows, 16 MACs)

  • There are 123 Windows and 16 MAC workstations available for use

South Gate Library Open Lab Workstations (Currently Closed)

  • There are 20 Windows workstations available for use, and one (1) community computer for non-students

ADA Workstations (QTY: 2)

  • One dedicated Windows computer and a MAC computer is available for use by students with disabilities
  • A document enhancer (Alladin) is also available for use 
  • A dedicated ADA printer is currently unavailable.  If you need assistance with printing, please go to the Tech Help desk

Audio/Headphones

  • All library computers are set on mute
  • You may use personal headphones at a low volume (so as not to disturb others) if needed

Document Scanner (QTY: Five (5) at main campus)

  • Two document scanners are available for faculty, staff, and students
  • There is a 30-minute time limit on the use of the scanner, unless there is no other patron waiting in line
  • Library patrons can easily scan newspapers, magazines, documents or books directly without cutting or damaging them

Multi-Device Charging Stations (QTY: 2) 

  • There are two charging stations available located by the entrance of the library
  • Library patrons can now charge their portable devices anytime during our hours of operation

Portable Battery Packs (QTY: 30 at the main campus)

  • There are battery packs available for 2-hour in house use. 
  • Battery packs are capable of charging laptops, phones, and other portable devices.
